Our Journey

Serving music since 1948, EMI Pakistan is the country’s longest-standing record label and home to Pakistan’s largest musical library. Our journey began as The Gramophone Company of Pakistan, established with the full backing of the His Master’s Voice (HMV) Group UK. Following the divestment of EMI UK Group in 1991, the company proudly became an independent entity under the name EMI (Pakistan) Ltd in 1993.

Our very first archived recording dates back even earlier—a 1939 track by Madam Noor Jehan—marking the beginning of a legacy that continues to define the nation’s musical identity. Over the decades, EMI Pakistan has represented the greatest voices and most influential groups in our cultural history.

Our extensive archives hold over 60,000 recordings across genres and eras—Ghazal, Qawwali, Eastern Classical, Pop, Film Soundtracks, Folk, Instrumentals and beyond. These include the legacies of icons such as Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hassan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, Iqbal Bano, Farida Khanum, Ghulam Farid Sabri, Alam Lohar, and generations of Pakistan’s top pop stars.

As music evolved, so did EMI Pakistan. We have consistently championed new artists, embraced technological shifts, and pioneered the transition of legacy music into modern listening formats. By 2000, while labels around the world struggled to keep pace with digital transformation, EMI Pakistan was already developing pathways for the future of music consumption—ensuring that heritage and contemporary creativity thrive together.

Today, as a fully independent company, we remain committed to safeguarding Pakistan’s sonic history while providing superior, legal, and globally accessible music content. EMI Pakistan continues to be a beacon for the industry—preserving the past, powering the present, and inspiring the future of Pakistani music.
