Noor Jehan (21 September 1926 – 23 December 2000) was a legendary Pakistani playback singer and actress whose career spanned over six decades. Known as Malika-e-Tarannum (“Queen of Melody”), she recorded around 10,000 songs in multiple languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, and Sindhi, and lent her voice to 2,422 songs in 1,148 Pakistani films. Proficient in Hindustani classical music, she also ventured into directing, becoming Pakistan’s first female film director with Chann Wey (1951). Noor Jehan is celebrated as a cultural icon and a pioneer in South Asian music and cinema.
